Hello Everyone
.Let's put our heads together and share our experience in teaching writing How can we make writing lessons/lectures interesting? What online practice can we provide for our students to help them practice alone at home? Add whatever you feel that it might help in improving the process of teaching writing BUT FIRST specify which school or college level you are teaching Thank you |

Hi there
First of all, I confess that teaching writing is one of the difficult tasks any teacher has to tackle. Most people think that teaching writing is merely teaching students how to use English characters and punctuations! Unfortunately, the task is quite difficult because writing itself is a skill, a talent, persay. Yet, there are some assisting steps teachers could follow to enhance their students' writing skills. I taught all stages ![]() A very interesting post, Areej. I will be back soon to carry on this rich discussion and ,maybe, speak about the techniues I used. Regards :)

Well, I’m not a teacher and I’ve never taught writing. But I am a grad student at TESOL program in USA. I am currently study a course call Teaching Reading and Writing for Literate Students, therefore, I like to share you what I’ve learned. Important to mention that we focus on two textbooks
1. Teaching ESL Composition, Ferris and Hedgcock. 2. Teaching and researching Reading. Grabe and Stoller. The thing the author assisted on is that one can’t successfully teach writing without simultaneously teaching reading teaching. Since practical experience have demonstrated that one cannot be a proficient writers without developing literacy skills- reading comprehension included. So I think it is probably a good idea that the one who teaches writing for a classroom teaches them reading as well. I remember that my study of writing in Imam University was completely separated from reading class. So this idea was new not only for me but also my classmates, and when we raised this issues, she said at least , teaching writing should include reading assignment if it is not possible to integrate the both courses. to be continued. p.s this book is worth to buy , it is really v.useful |

If writing lessons are intended to be interesting, they must be useful.
I strongly recommend that students practise writing per TOEFL requirements.
